Peaberry Coffee

IF YOU LOVE COFFEE. We managed to secure 2 kilos of PEABERRY COFFEE from our Benguet farmers. Very rare, almost as difficult to get as the civet cat coffee. Peaberry is not a variety of coffee, rather it is a natural aberation of the coffee bean. Normally, coffee cherries develop two seeds but for unknown reasons — weather, pollination, or plant nutrition, scientists cannot say — some cherries only develop one. No one can replicate it, it is really found only in nature. These are called peaberries because they resemble peas, as opposed to “regular” coffee beans which are flat. Out of 100 kilos of regular coffee beans, you get only a kilo or so of peaberries. They have to be sorted by hand manually and meticulously, it is the work for very patient individuals. The intensive labor required and the scarcity, plus the uniquely delicious taste of Peaberry coffee give them such a premium. Here are the elders among our coffee growers sorting for Peaberries, taken just last night. We’ll medium roast the Peaberry coffee and pack them as whole beans, 50 grams per pack.
