DASAL NG STO. NINO. It takes so much courage to be a farmer in this country.You really wonder how farmers can take a loss year after year. Of all the farmers we’ve met, no one is more hard-bitten than Jerry Baltazar of Sto. Nino, Cagayan. This year he is facing a 20-ton disaster. His cabbages are big and ready, but there are no buyers. Jerry is looking at the grim possibility of leaving his cabbages in the field to rot — again, like last year and two other years before that. Why the h*ck does he keep on planting! It’s hard to imagine that for four year snow he was in the same situation — middlemen offering P5/kilo and this year, no middlemen at all. Every year Jeryy sinks deeper and deeper into debt. If we do not help Jerry, there will be no hope. How many times did the farmer say “Sana matulungan niyo kami?”, more than you can count. RuRi is not this farmer’s only hope, we are his fervent prayer. It really make you think, these farmers live in a town called Sto. Nino but they have to pray to God to send buyers.
