Diana Watermelon

THE CRY OF BALINTOCATOK. There’s of course the historical Cry of Balintawak where brave Filipino nationalists — a rare and rarer breed these days — led by Andres Bonifacio tore their cedulas to declare the start of the revolution against Spain. This new effort we are calling the Cry of Balitocatok, named after a small village in Santiago, Isabela where they grow a revolutionary kind of WATERMELON. That watermelon they call the Diana, oh what a beautiful contradiction of smooth golden yellow skin and crunchy, red inside flesh of such exceeding sweetness that would make you cry “So good, mga kapatid”.
