DINGALAN AVOCADOS. During the pandemic and the early years of Rural Rising, we did an Avocado Rescue Buy in Dingalan, Aurora. It was probably the most complex Rescue Buy we have ever done.

This was how we did it, for “just” 100 kilos of Avocado:
“The farmers picked them this morning, put them on padded sacks, and brought them by tricycle to the Dingalan Transit bus station. 2 hour bus trip from Dingalan to Cabanatuan. Bus met by a local person, avocados transferred at Cabanatuan to a bus going to Bulacan. (Reason: Buses don’t go into Manila). 2 hour bus trip from Cabanatuan to Bulacan. Bus met by a local person, avocados transferred in Bulacan to a bus going to Manila. 1 hour bus trip from Bulacan to Cubao. Bus met by our Manila coordinator, brought to Ruri House in Maayusin Street.”

It still amazes me to read how we did it, why we did it, now that the pandemic was over and we have a fleet of truck and access to a netowrk of backload driver. That first Avocado Rescue Buy had absolutely no economy of scale but it absolutely makes sense to help the farmers of Dingalan, Aurora.
