UNBELIEVABLE BANANA. One of our earliest Rescue Buys we ever did, May 2020, was in the town of Paracelis, Mountain Province. Saba Bananas, we rescued saba bananas. On the highway near Bontoc State University, the farmers transferred their bananas to our truck. I remember our truck arriving in Baguio past midnight. I remember that it was just our son Yohan and a single helper who unloaded those 4 tons of Bananas, that it was already light when they finished. I remember that we had no orders for those Bananas, we took them from Paracelis with no marketing plan. Bahala na, that was our plan. We posted pictures of them with no expectations. Somehow, the universe (and young Rural Rising) delivered for the farmers of Paracelis, that truckload of bananas got sold. I remember when the farmers received their money, di daw sila makapaniwala. Ako rin, di makapaniwala. It was possible pala to move produce on the dint of stories, so we started writing more.

PARA SA PARACELIS PLEASE. The farmers of Paracelis, Mountain Province have literal mountains of beautiful bananas to sell, and no one to sell it to. With every town along the seven-hour, single-road journey to Baguio locked down, the produce is not going anywhere. Ten tons a week coming for several weeks now, and no way to stop the harvest from ripening, you can imagine how much there is. The only choice is to give away the bananas to passersby, exchanged them for vegetables though that possibility is rare, or simply leave them by the side of the road. If Rural Rising is able to put get a truck through to Paracelis, pay the farmers the right price for five tons cash, will you take some?
