ON THE ROAD TO KATMONDO. While picking raspberries with our farmers, we chanced upon a fruit-laden growing by the side of the road. KATMONS! That green fleshy fruit, beautiful like a bird of paradise when peeled, a taste similar to green sour apples. We dipped one in salt and found it surprisingly refreshing to eat due to its acidity and juicineness. I’ve tried it on toast, a lovely jam. Katmon shines best as an addition to to pinakbet or sinigangas a souring ingredient. Locals are also known to mix the acidic fruit juice with sugar into a drink.
