Native Kalabasa

These are the same Kalabasas we shall send to the animal rescue shelters too.

VEGGIE VIGILANTE. Eddie is one of our farmers we’re helping in Nueva Ecija. We buy everything he is able to plant — kalabasa, kamatis, sili and the occassional okra. Empowered by Rural Rising, he flies around near and distant towns in his kolong-kolong looking for farmers in distress. Sometimes we call him our Veggie Vigilante.

Sometimes he would call and say “Ma’am, may okra/pakwan po dito, pwede po ba natin sila tulungan?” He would then press the phone to the farmer — “Ito po siya, oh” — and we would have no chance to think about it.

“Ikaw talaga, Eddie, lagi mo kami pinapasubo,” we would tell him, but always naman we are able to sell out the produce and we end up asking him to get more. Sometimes, he would find gems. Lately he was able to get us NATIVE KALABASA. These are small, sweet and maligat-malagkit kalabasas, one kilo each, are hard to find. We are happy, the vigilante strikes (gold) again.
