PAPAYA AYAW PAAWAT. This is Melvin, yung Papaya farmer that we rescued from financial peril a few months ago. He was desperate to sell a truckload of Papayas that a buyer canceled, driving around Metro Manila in the middle of the night with his wife and finding no buyers. When they came to us, naawa talaga kami. His mother just died, and we just had to help them, never mind that were were travelling ourselves to Camp Mingan. We wrote the call for help past midnight and members heeded it because by mid-morning of the next day, Melvin was able to sell every single papaya he had in his truck. All of it to RuRi.

Naaawa kami ulit kay Melvin, ayaw paawat ang trahedya sa buhay nila. This time it is their young daughter, hit by a truck on the way back from school practice. While her mother begs us for help from the hospital, Melvin is in the papaya fields gathering what papayas he can to sell for what will be crippling medical expenses. This is not a simple injury flesh wound or bone fracture their daughter sustained, it’s a bleeding in the brain that needs urgent medical attention.

PAPAYA PAAWA. 12:36 AM na. At last, arrived at Camp Mingan, all I wanted to do is to put my head down somewhere and sleep. Tired, but I have to post this. In Metro Manila right now, one of our farmers, his wife in tow, is trying to sell his Papayas. There are no buyers, only takers. As in literal na takers — they want to take the Papayas without paying, these perfect strangers. How can they ask the farmers this? ? They must go from market to market like Jesus and Mary.
