Let us avert an impending disaster.
RIPE FOR ROTTING. A few months ago in San Pablo, Laguna a truck filled with SABA BANANAS died in the middle of the highway. It was eventually pulled to the side but it never got to move for a week. At first the local community flocked to buy from this stranded truck but as the excitement waned, fewer and fewer came. A week is a lifetime for green bananas, so the many tons that the driver and pahinante failed to sell ripened and rotted where they were. I can almost imagine the smell and the sound of flies in my head. With the intention to help, we sent a person to survey the situation and she said the bananas were beyond saving. “Mga bulok na daw, matagal na pala yon, mag 1 week na po”. These pictures are the bananas we cannot save. it’s quite heart-breaking.
This time we have an opportunity to save 15 tons of Saba Bananas from North Cotabato. It’s a very strange problem — there is an over-supply of Saba Bananas right now, connected to the closing of the San Juanico bridge. Eastern Visayas is in fact in a state of calamity over its closing. With trucks no longer able to drive across, Bananas and other Mindanao produce are shipped to Manila Port by boat. What was a 3~4 days journey is now a journey of 33 hours. You’d think this is a good thing but suddenly there is an oversupply of Saba Bananas, they are coming in faster than the turon and sweet factories can process them. They are also facing competition from Isabela bananas. We have been pleaded with to move what we can from a mountain of 15,000 kilos of Bananas. I am confident that we can move 1 ton, and if we push hard enough to help, perhaps two. We’ll reveal more details in a subsequent post.
SABA BANANA RESCUE BUY. This is a Rescue Buy with high urgency, and an offer of Saba Bananas with big discount. We are seeking support for 1~2 tons with a Rescue Timetable of 3 days — the bananas must sell over the weekend. If you give P225, your share shall be five kilos. Steal! Please find the order link in the comments section below.
