Bintong Kamote

We first discovered Bintong in Aglipay, Quirino back in 2021. We had never seen kamote that looked so rough. Crooked, uneven, not pretty at all. But we had also never tasted anything sweeter. From the start, it was one of those crops that didn’t need explaining. Once people tried it, it sold out.

For years, we waited on that one farmer’s harvest. He harvested about three times a year, and every time he did, the kamote would sell out even before it arrived. When we eventually visited him, he agreed to share planting materials with us. We passed these on to more than ten farmers across Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, and Benguet.

Over time, more farmers began harvesting, and harvesting more often. That’s why we’re now able to offer Bintong more regularly, something we couldn’t do in the earlier years.

Sometimes, we even find ourselves comparing batches from different farms, quietly deciding which one is the sweetest of them all. We’re not sure the earlier farmers would appreciate that kind of competition, but we’re fairly certain no RuRi member will complain.

There are just a few kilos left right now.
